Sustainable Landscape Planning Class Offered

...In the upcoming “Designing a Beautiful and Sustainable Landscape” Zoom class being taught by Horticulture Outreach Specialist, Diana Alfuth.

​The class will consist of a total of three sessions, each a week apart. Learn about the basic principles of design, how to analyze your existing landscape, and then how to follow a step-by-step process to locate and combine plants to create a unified, beautiful landscape, while lowering maintenance and protecting the environment!

Class Dates:   Tuesdays January 24, January 31, and February 7
ClassTime:      6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on all three dates

Class will be taught via Zoom and attendees will receive links by email prior to each session. These sessions count toward your CEs (continuing education credits). There is no charge for this class.

2023 Master Gardener Onboarding

Registration Deadline: March 1

Do you want to be a Wisconsin Extension Master Gardener?  Have you completed an approved learning opportunity? If you answered yes to both these questions, then now is the time to join the Wisconsin Extension Master Gardener Program by registering and completing the 2023 Onboarding course.

This course serves as an orientation to the Program and covers its requirements. Upon completion you will be prepared to address needs and opportunities in your community and throughout the state as a Master Gardener.
  • Course dates: January 17 – March 31, 2023
  • Course fee: $100
  • Online, asynchronous course in Canvas - learn at your own pace when you want to!
  • Prerequisite: an approved learning opportunity from the Wisconsin Extension Horticulture Program.​

SCVMGA Grant Applications Due in Early March

The Grant Committee is currently accepting applications for the 2023 SCVMGA Community Grant Fund. The committee will consider applications for the following: beautification of public spaces, horticultural education of the public, community gardens, and/or youth horticulture education. Note: Past grant recipients in good standing are welcome to reapply on a yearly basis.

Applications Due: March 6

Grant awards will be announced by Thursday, April 20, 2023. Click here for a 2023 Grant Application form.

Wisconsin Horticulture Division of Extension             Plant Diagnostics Course February 1 - April 30

Plant Diagnostics: The Step-by-Step Approach to Identifying Plant Problems

Have you always wanted to get better at troubleshooting problems in your garden? Do you want to build on your skills as a gardener? Plant Diagnostics: The Step-by-Step Approach to Identifying Plant Problems is an online asynchronous course designed to introduce you to the process of plant diagnostics.

Learn the process for identifying plant problems in your own garden and be ready for the growing season! This course explains the basics of the plant diagnostic process in an easy-to-understand way.
  • Moderated course dates: February 1, 2023- April 30, 2023. Course is moderated by staff February-April to help answer your course questions. You get course access through December 31, 2023.
  • Course fee: $99
  • Special discounted fee of $49 for current Wisconsin Extension Master Gardeners or those enrolled in Onboarding 2023
  • Online, asynchronous course in Canvas- learn at your own pace when you want to!
  • Course registration includes two live webinars (will be recorded) and course access through December 31, 2023.
  • The registration deadline is January 31, 2023. 

    This course counts for 7.5 hours of Continuing Education for the Wisconsin Extension Master Gardener Program.

Do you know what the CE and Volunteer Requirements are to remain a Certified Master Gardener? 

From the Wisconsin Master Gardener Program, Division of Extension, University of Wisconsin-Madison:

To Remain Active:
​Master Gardeners must report a minimum of 1 hour CE
and 1 hour volunteer service to remain active.

To be Fully Certified:
To be fully certified, Master Gardeners must report 10 hours CE and 24 hours of volunteer service.

The number of hours that you report in a preceding year will determine whether or not you are active or certified for the following year.

NOTE:
Onboarding-lite Course
All MGVs are required to take this course BEFORE Volunteering. It’s taught on Canvas, the University’s online learning management system, and earns you 5 CE credits. It must be completed by March 31. It will require a separate password (NetID) to access. Click here.
